A prayer from the Upanishad for this beautiful celebration of Deepavali
asato mā sadgamaya
tamasomā jyotir gamaya
mrityormāamritam gamaya
Oṁ śhānti śhānti śhāntiḥ
tamasomā jyotir gamaya
mrityormāamritam gamaya
Oṁ śhānti śhānti śhāntiḥ
Meaning of this Upanishadic prayer:
From ignorance, lead us to truth;
From darkness, lead us to light;
From death, lead us to immortality
Om peace, peace, peace
From darkness, lead us to light;
From death, lead us to immortality
Om peace, peace, peace
Deepavali is a time of offering prayers for the enlightenment of humanity. It is a time to invite the Creator's loving light to enter into our heart and fill the Planet so that there might be great relief from sorrow, sickness, ignorance, hate, greed, war, and every kind of fear.
In one of his discourses Sri Sai Baba says, "Deepavali is a festival which is designed to celebrate the suppression of the Ego by the Higher Self. Man is plunged in the darkness of ignorance and has lost the power of discrimination between the permanent and the evanescent. When the darkness of ignorance caused by Ahamkara (the ego-feeling) is dispelled by the light of Divine knowledge, the effulgence of the Divine is experienced."

May the loving light of the Creator fill your hearts and your home on this Deepavali, and bring illumination, wisdom and peace!
