TRUE GENEROSITY NEEDS TRUE HUMILITY

Blessed are we when we understand that generosity goes hand in hand with humility.  In order to practice generosity, one must first attain humility.  When we learn to love and accept all of ourselves (the good and the not so good) completely, humility is born. Humility is emptying oneself of all the 'I' stories, removing all the labels of who or what we think we are. I have found this to be the most challenging journey of all, it is a journey to transformation.
Without loving and accepting the self we cannot understand humility.  If we try to practice humility without first loving and accepting the self completely, the true meaning of humility changes, for we tend to start practicing humility from the mind stories of self-pity and lack of self-esteem.
Humility is not about lack of self-esteem or weakness.  Humility is power attained through emptying oneself of all the mind stories of the 'I', mind stories of the past, removing all the labels, emptying oneself completely so that the love of the Creator can flow through. If we are full of mind stories there will be no space for the Creator anywhere.
The mind stories of the 'I' likes to keep memories, it likes to compare and summarize and likes to think that it knows all, it likes to give and it cannot receive, it continues to interact with the world from the stories of the 'I'.
Receiving love, kindness and grace from the Divine and from the people around us becomes very difficult when we are not able to empty the 'I' stories in ourselves.
True generosity is not only giving but also receiving.  Giving is a great experience and it can be fulfilled only from the place of receiving.  If there is no one to receive how can we experience giving.
One can truly receive only when one is in the place of humility.  The foundation for all great relationships depend on the balance of giving and receiving. True generosity is graciousness in giving and graciousness in receiving.

Blessings!
