THE ONLY TRUE LOVE AFFAIR IS THE ONE WE HAVE WITH OURSELVES
We deplete our energy by attaching to our judgments about the world. Instead of healing ourselves, we start searching for that perfect person who would love and understand us and complete us in all of the ways that we could not. In our search, we demand that our parent, spouse, or children validate the caring, the love, the nurturing, the acceptance, and the respect that we are not giving ourselves. That is why we want them to behave according to our ideals and our concepts. We try to mold them to our whims and fancies, and we create discord in our relationships when they are not what we want them to be. We never get to truly know them or see them as they are as we constantly seek to see them only from our ideals. Hence, we lose the joy of knowing the true person in our lifetime.
Each person is a universe unto themselves. Each person can understand only their own story. No one can ever understand another person’s story, and even if they do understand, it will only be from their perspective. Therefore, no one will be able to love or understand you the way that you want. Realizing this is a grand freedom. Realizing this we come to the understanding that the only person who can love and understand us the way we want is our own self. We are the ones we are seeking. The only true love affair is what we have with ourselves. The experience of love and understanding cannot come from anyone outside us; it can only come from within us. I cannot tell you truly that I love you, all I can say is “I love me more when I am with you” or “I love me more for having created you in my space.”
We are one hundred percent responsible for our own happiness; no one has authority over our life as only we have the authority. By noticing the concepts and thoughts that we attach to, we realize that no one can frighten us – it is our own doing. The world is a projection of our thinking. So when we understand our thinking, we understand the world. When we are at peace within ourselves, the world is at peace. When we love ourselves, there is clarity in our mind and through clarity we can see that all is good. We are all absolutely safe, and there are no mistakes in the Universe.
Blessings!
