A QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION

A QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION TO SHARE
A sweet friend asked me this question:
Q: Why is all this senseless violence and war going on around us, So many people are suffering for no mistake of theirs. I know I can do nothing by just getting agitated, but aren't we failing them collectively?
A: Yes, every decision we make we are adding to the collective consciousness.
There is actually no individual karma, karma is collective.
So we are responsible for every thought , word, and action we bring to play into the collective consciousness.
If we choose anger and unforgiveness we pour it into the collective, and if we choose peace and no judgment we pour that also into the collective. Our choices affect not only the collective but also creates unnecessary stress in our individual lives.
From my experience as a school teacher and spiritual teacher, I have noticed that only wounded people hurt others. People who have been disrespected, disempowered, unjustly treated are the ones who take out their frustration on others.
Sadly our justice system and our common human mentality chooses to punish the wrongdoings without inquiring into the root cause. The root cause would be that they have been hurt, physically, mentally or emotionally and they are suffering deep within themselves and they are releasing it by making others suffer. These people do not need punishment, they need help. When we choose to change our prisons into healing centers, we will be able to build a peaceful society.
So as individuals it is our responsibility to bring non judgment , peace and kindness into our heart , into our homes and into the human collective.
Every individual decision counts, every individual decision has an effect on the collective, when one person chooses they influence those around them, and those others influence more others, and at one point we will be able to see a society free of violence and war, and there will be absolutely no need for the police, military, or justice system. For each individual will be capable of being responsible for living from the place of peace, kindness and non judgment.
To explain this more I am reminded of the 100th monkey experiment conducted in the islands of Japan.
The Japanese monkey, Macaca Fuscata, had been observed in the wild for a period of over 30 years.
In 1952, on the island of Koshima, scientists were providing monkeys with sweet potatoes dropped in the sand. The monkey liked the taste of the raw sweet potatoes, but they found the dirt unpleasant.
An 18-month-old female named Imo found she could solve the problem by washing the potatoes in a nearby stream. She taught this trick to her mother. Her playmates also learned this new way and they taught their mothers too.
This cultural innovation was gradually picked up by various monkeys before the eyes of the scientists. Between 1952 and 1958 all the young monkeys learned to wash the sandy sweet potatoes to make them more palatable. Only the adults who imitated their children learned this social improvement. Other adults kept eating the dirty sweet potatoes.
Then something startling took place. In the autumn of 1958, a certain number of Koshima monkeys were washing sweet potatoes -- the exact number is not known. Let us suppose that when the sun rose one morning there were 99 monkeys on Koshima Island who had learned to wash their sweet potatoes. Let's further suppose that later that morning, the hundredth monkey learned to wash potatoes.
THEN IT HAPPENED!
By that evening almost everyone in the tribe was washing sweet potatoes before eating them. The added energy of this hundredth monkey somehow created an ideological breakthrough!
But notice: A most surprising thing observed by these scientists was that the habit of washing sweet potatoes then jumped over the sea...Colonies of monkeys on other islands and the mainland troop of monkeys at Takasakiyama began washing their sweet potatoes.
Thus, when a certain critical number achieves an awareness, this new awareness may be communicated from mind to mind.
Although the exact number may vary, this Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon means that when only a limited number of people know of a new way, it may remain the conscious property of these people.
But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes-in to a new awareness, a field is strengthened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone!
~From the book "The Hundredth Monkey" by Ken Keyes, Jr.
Change as a collective cannot happen immediately, but change is happening as we speak, with one person at a time, with persons who are able to practice and live in conscious awareness.
Conscious awareness means making a choice to go beyond the mind and its fear stories, to live in the now moment with trust and non judgment, to find the gift in every situation, and understanding that our every choice affects not only ourselves but the collective also.
Trust that I have answered your question my dear.
Blessings!
